2009-03-12

The Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children (ASDC) is one of 33 associations involved in handicraft production taking part in the fair held under the supervision of the Women's Affairs Center from 10-12 March 2009 in "La Merage" Hotel.

For Ibrahim El Muhtadi, Atfaluna Marketing and Business Manager, "Participating in this kind of exhibition is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the artistic creativity and skill of deaf persons in the field of the handicraft production".

“This exhibition broke the barrier of silence of the deaf community by giving them the chance to integrate in the society.”

The Atfaluna Society regularly takes part in local, national, and international activities to promote handicraft products made by the deaf and other marginalized persons who attend the ‘Vocational Training Program’.

This program is one of the activities carried out under ‘Improving the Quality of Life for Deaf and Marginalized People in The Gaza Strip Project’ co-funded by the European Union with a contribution of over €750,000 and Christoffel-Blindenmission, Germany. About 15,000 deaf and marginalized persons have benefited from this program during the past four years.

The Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children (http://www.atfaluna.net) is a non-profit society established in the Gaza Strip in 1992. It aims to improve the quality of life of deaf children and adults and help them reach their full potential by providing quality education, health care, social services, and work opportunities.
